  • iCERT Appoints Sara Weston as Executive Director

WASHINGTON, D.C. — (March 5, 2026)  — The Industry Council for Emergency Response Technologies (iCERT), the nation’s premier trade association dedicated to advancing public safety technology, is pleased to announce the appointment of Sara Weston, PMP, ENP, as its new Executive Director, effective March 23, 2026. A veteran leader in the public safety sector, Weston brings over 20 years of experience in Next Generation 911 (NG911) and a reputation for facilitating stakeholder engagement to drive consensus across complex technical and political landscapes. Weston joins iCERT at a critical juncture as the organization accelerates its mission to modernize emergency communications through increased technological innovation and effective advocacy. "Sara Weston is a bridge-builder whose career has been defined by her ability to develop and sustain partnerships across public safety, government, and private-sector organizations," said iCERT Board Chair Eric Hagerson.  "Her unique ability to align diverse interests—from federal policy makers to local practitioners—makes her the ideal person to champion the interests of our members and the broader emergency response community."   A Proven Track Record of Collaboration. Weston joins iCERT following a career built on nurturing relationships across the public safety communications ecosystem.  As the CEO of Sara Weston Consulting, LLC, she has been instrumental in shaping national 911 policy and advocating for critical technological advancements in emergency response, working with organizations like the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s National 911 Program, the National Association of State 911 Administrators, and the NG911 Institute. As founder and executive director of 911der Women, Inc., Weston grew a professional network from inception to over 15,000 members in less than five years, demonstrating an unparalleled ability to engage and unite a national community toward a shared mission. Vision for iCERT.  Traditionally centered on 911, iCERT’s vision now encompasses the full spectrum of emergency response and public safety communications. This new strategic direction seeks to transform emergency response into an advanced, data-rich environment that improves public safety in every community. Executive Director Weston will spearhead this transition, fostering vital partnerships between the tech industry and the public safety community to ensure that innovation meets real-world needs. "I have spent my career at the intersection of technology and public safety, and I have seen firsthand that progress only happens when we work together," said Weston. "I am thrilled to lead iCERT and look forward to collaborating with our industry partners to ensure that our industry remains a vital partner to the public safety community that depends on us.” About iCERT.  Industry Council for Emergency Response Technologies (iCERT) is the only industry trade association focused exclusively on emergency response technologies and related equipment, systems, services, and applications. iCERT’s mission is to improve public safety and emergency response by uniting leading technology companies in a collaborative effort to drive innovation, shape effective policy, and promote open standards.  For more information, please visit www.theindustrycouncil.org . • iCERT Supports "SUCCESS for BEAD Act"

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Dec. 18, 2025 iCERT Applauds “SUCCESS for BEAD Act” WASHINGTON, D.C. (Dec. 18, 2025) – The Industry Council for Emergency Response Technologies (iCERT) strongly supports legislation introduced by Senator Roger Wicker (MS) and Senator Shelley Capito (WV) that would authorize the use of remaining funds under the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) Program for projects that would help to support the success of the broadband deployment projects funded by the program. The BEAD program is the largest federal investment in broadband infrastructure to date with its central mission to "bridge the digital divide" by ensuring every American has access to affordable, reliable, broadband communications. The “Supporting U.S. Critical Connectivity and Economic Strategy and Security for BEAD Act” (“SUCCESS for BEAD Act”) would support that goal by allowing any unused funds to be used to bolster investments in our nation’s telecommunications infrastructure and strengthen the leadership of the United States in critical and emerging technologies. iCERT believes that ensuring community safety and national security is the most critical infrastructure investment that Congress can make. Consequently, we strongly support the inclusion of Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG911) as an eligible use under the BEAD Program, as amended by the Act. Much of our nation’s 9-1-1 infrastructure, particularly in rural areas, is dangerously obsolete – less secure, increasingly unreliable, and expensive to maintain. Upgrading our nation’s emergency response infrastructure to NG911 is essential and fully aligns with the BEAD Program’s goals of supporting emerging broadband technologies and ensuring all parts of the country have access to advanced capabilities. Nationwide implementation of NG911 should be a national priority. We thank Senators Wicker and Capito for their work in advancing common sense amendments to the BEAD Program to achieve this goal, and we strongly encourage Congress to pass this important legislation. • Esri Joins iCERT

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Dec 18, 2025 Esri Joins iCERT WASHINGTON, D.C. (Dec. 18, 2025) – The Industry Council for Emergency Response Technologies (iCERT) has announced that Esri, a global market leader in location intelligence and mapping, has joined iCERT. Founded in 1969, Esri has been a pioneer in developing geographic information systems (GIS) that are becoming indispensable tools for modern emergency response and disaster management. During an emergency, these GIS platforms are used to fuse disparate data sources—such as real-time satellite imagery, sensor data, road closures, building footprints, and demographics—into a single operational map, allowing first responders to gain improved situational awareness. “GIS is critical to the future of emergency response,” said Don Brittingham, iCERT’s interim executive director. “Esri’s membership in iCERT is important to the organization’s ongoing efforts to drive continued innovations that will improve public safety.” “Esri is committed to using science and technology to help make our communities safer,” said Brooks Shannon, Esri’s Director of Emergency Communications Solutions. “Our relationship with iCERT will help us collaborate with industry leaders in an effort to integrate GIS more deeply and effectively with emergency response systems.” About iCERT Industry Council for Emergency Response Technologies (iCERT) has a mission to improve public safety and emergency response by uniting leading technology companies in a collaborative effort to drive innovation, shape effective policy, and promote open standards.
